This Bruins draft pick will be hitting the free-agent market instead of signing his entry-level deal with the Black and Gold.

The Boston Bruins were hit with a tough update regarding one of their promising prospects.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Andre Gasseau will be testing the free-agent market this summer instead of signing his entry-level contract with the Bruins.

"Andre Gasseau, Boston’s seventh-round pick in 2021, is going to free agency in August. Astute pick by the Bruins, but will test the market," Friedman wrote.

Hearing that Gasseau will officially be heading to free agency this summer is undoubtedly disappointing. The 22-year-old forward was one of the Bruins' most fascinating forward prospects, but with this news, he will be looking for opportunities elsewhere.

However, it is also understandable that Gasseau wants to explore his other options. The Bruins have a surplus of NHL-caliber forwards, so he would have had a lot of competition to try to land a spot on Boston's roster.

Gasseau appeared in 23 games during this season with Boston College, where he had six goals, 17 assists, and 23 points. With Gasseau coming off a strong campaign and being a 6-foot-4 center, he should generate a ton of interest in free agency. It's a shame he won't be in Boston.
