The Boston Bruins have the seventh-overall pick at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. With this, they have a golden opportunity to land themselves a top prospect, which is certainly a big need for the Original Six club right now.
This year's draft class is a wild card, though, and several potential targets have been named for the Bruins to consider with their seventh-overall pick because of it. A few include Jake O'Brien, Brady Martin, and Porter Martone.
The Athletic's Corey Pronman recently released his 2025 NHL mock draft, and he predicted that the Bruins will select Roger McQueen with their seventh-overall pick.
McQueen, 18, is a prospect who has been discussed as a potential target for the Bruins in the past. It is easy to understand why, as he is a 6-foot-5 center who is very skilled offensively, smart defensively, and plays a very heavy game. Thus, he would be a notable pickup for a Bruins team that desperately needs to improve their prospect pool.
However, McQueen also missed most of this season due to a back injury. In 17 games this season in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings, he recorded 10 goals, 20 points, 40 penalty minutes, and a plus-8 rating. Overall, he was very good when he played, but it is undoubtedly notable that he missed so much time.
Ultimately, there would be some risk in the Bruins selecting McQueen, but he also has the skill and potential to blossom into a highly impactful top-six NHL center in the future. It will be interesting to see if he ends up being Boston's first-round selection from here.
Report: Ex-Bruins Forward Signing Massive Deal With New Team
Before the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins dealt Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-team trade with the New Jersey Devils. The move was easy to understand, as the Bruins were out of the playoff race, and Frederic was a pending unrestricted free agent.
