At the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins brought back Jakub Lauko in the trade that sent Justin Brazeau to the Minnesota Wild. With Lauko being a fan favorite during his first stint in Boston, there was naturally excitement about the gritty winger coming back to Boston.
Yet, based on a recent report, there appears to be a real possibility that Lauko's second tenure with the Bruins could come to an end this off-season.
According to the Boston Herald's Steve Conroy, Lauko's agent, JP Barry, informed him that Lauko will not be receiving a qualifying offer from the Bruins and will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1.
Lauko played in 18 games with the Bruins after being reacquired by them this season, posting two goals, five points, 50 hits, and a minus-8 rating. Overall, the 25-year-old winger provided plenty of grit and energy to the Bruins' bottom six in his return, but it was not enough for him to land a qualifying offer from the Original Six club.
Lauko should generate some interest once he becomes a UFA. Teams looking for more bite and forward depth could consider taking a flyer on him, especially when noting that he is just 25 years old.
In 101 games over two stints and three seasons with the Bruins, Lauko has recorded eight goals, 22 points, 270 hits, and a minus-9 rating.
