After re-signing a bunch of their players, the Boston Bruins are entering the first day of free agency with over $12 million of cap space. Due to this, they are in a position to bring in some new talent.
The Bruins' clear top need is to improve their forward group. Adding a top-six winger, in particular, should be their biggest goal. Because of this, they are being viewed as one of the likely suitors for the NHL's top pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) right winger.
In his recent column for Sportsnet, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman listed the Bruins as among the possible landing spots for Vancouver Canucks star UFA Brock Boeser. In addition, Friedman noted that the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers, and San Jose Sharks could also be potential destinations for Boeser.
Friedman writes:
"Some possibilities: Winnipeg, Edmonton (if the Oilers can create room), Boston. San Jose needs players and to hit the salary floor. Someone’s going to benefit. Could be Boeser."
The Bruins have been connected often to Boeser this summer, and it is not difficult to understand why. They desperately need help at the right wing position, and Boeser is the best option available to give them just that. He would give them a significant upgrade to their second-line right wing spot, which has been a major issue for them for quite some time.
It will be fascinating to see if the Bruins end up being the lucky team that lands Boeser, but the fit looks good on paper.
