In a recent article for The Hockey News Utah, Spencer Lazary discussed three potential trade candidates for the Utah Mammoth. With the Boston Bruins needing another top-six forward, one name certainly stands out from the trio Lazary discussed - Nick Schmaltz.
Schmaltz is coming off another strong season in 2024-25, as he recorded 20 goals, 43 assists, and 63 points in 82 games for Utah. This was the fourth season in a row where Schmaltz recorded at least 20 goals and 58 points, so he has been nothing but consistent over the last few years. Adding this type of offense would be excellent for a Bruins team that needs all the help it can get.
Schmaltz's versatility would also help make him a strong addition to the Bruins' roster if acquired. He can play both center and on either wing, so he could fit virtually anywhere in Boston's top six if brought in. Furthermore, due to his playmaking ability, he would also give the Bruins' power play a much-needed boost if acquired.
With Schmaltz having a $5.85 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season, the Bruins would need to move out some salary in a potential move to get him. However, when looking at all Schmatlz provides, his cap hit is certainly reasonable.
Ultimately, with the Bruins needing help on offense, bringing in a legitimate top-six forward who can play multiple positions like Schmaltz would be excellent for the Original Six club.
