The Boston Bruins are entering this off-season with plenty of cap space and are in a position to do some spending because of it. When looking at their current roster, one of their biggest needs right now is another top-six winger.
One pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) who has been viewed as a potential target for the Bruins is Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser. It is not too hard to understand why, as the Bruins undoubtedly need a top-six right winger for their second line.
Now, the Bruins are only continuing to be connected to Boeser. According to the Ottawa Citizen's Bruce Garrioch, the Bruins are among the teams who are expected to pursue Boeser if he hits the free-agent market on July 1.
Garrioch writes:
"Teams such as the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres and Chicago Blackhawks are expected to make a heavy push for Boeser."
After Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner, Boeser is arguably the top right winger who can become a free agent at the start of next month. Thus, it is understandable that the Bruins and so many other teams are expected to pursue the 2015 first-round pick.
If the Bruins signed Boeser, they would gain another much-needed sniper in their top six and power play. This would be significant, as the Bruins simply need more offense from their second line if they hope to help their chances of being a playoff team in 2025-26.
In 554 career NHL games, Boeser has recorded 204 goals, 230 assists, and 434 points. His best season with the Canucks was in 2023-24, as he set career highs with 40 goals and 73 points in 81 games.
Bruins Have Interesting Trade Target In Sabres Star Defender
One of the areas that the Boston Bruins should aim to improve this off-season is their defensive group. Their top four, in particular, could use improvement, especially with the team trading Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
