According to RG's James Murphy, an NHL source informed him that the Boston Bruins have expressed interest in Vancouver Canucks forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland.
"They have 100 percent called on both players," Murphy's source said. "They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise."
Hearing that the Bruins have Sherwood and Garland on their radar is not necessarily surprising. It is clear that the Bruins could use help at the right wing position, and bringing in either Sherwood or Garland would give them just that.
Sherwood is a player whom we here at The Hockey News Bruins recently highlighted as a potential fit for Boston. The 30-year-old winger is currently having a nice start to the season, posting 12 goals, 16 points, and 110 hits in 27 games. With this, he would give the Bruins more scoring and grit if they successfully acquired him.
Garland, on the other hand, has recorded six goals, 15 points, and a plus-2 rating in 21 games this season for the Canucks. With numbers like these, the Massachusetts native would also certainly give Boston's top six a boost if acquired. Yet, as another source told Murphy, Garland is not one of the players that the Canucks are looking to move right now.
With Garland not being shopped by the Canucks, Sherwood may be the more realistic trade target for the Bruins at this time. This is especially so when noting that Sherwood is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) and the Canucks are currently among the bottom teams in the Western Conference standings.
