Boston Bruins assistant coach Jay Leach is generating interest from one of the Original Six club's rivals.
On the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Leach is one of the coaches on the Penguins' radar for their vacant head coaching job.
"Pittsburgh, we mentioned Mitch Love last pod. I think he's high on their list. Other names I've kind of heard there are Jay Woodcroft, Jay Leach, Dave Quinn," Friedman said."
Hearing that Leach is on the Penguins' radar is not too surprising. The Bruins' assistant coach is somebody the Pens already know. He was previously the interim head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2015-16 season.
Leach has also only built on his resume since then, as he was previously head coach of the Providence Bruins and then an assistant coach of the Seattle Kraken. He then became an assistant coach for Boston ahead of the 2024-25 season.
It will be interesting to see if the Penguins' interest in Leach leads to him landing their head coaching job. He has been one of the names connected to Boston's open gig as well.
