Former Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers is staying with the Canucks.
The Vancouver Canucks have been quite busy over the last few days, and they are not slowing down. After signing Dakota Joshua earlier on Thursday, they have now re-signed former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers to a three-year, $9 million contract.
Myers and the Canucks were both very interested in getting a new deal done and now it has come to fruition. With this move, the veteran defenseman will continue to be a solid veteran piece for Vancouver’s blueline as they look to build off their impressive 2023-24 season.
Myers, 34, appeared in 77 games this past season with the Canucks, posting five goals, 29 points, and a plus-16 rating. This was Myers’ best offensive production since the 2018-19 season when he was with the Winnipeg Jets. He has earned this multi-year deal to stay in Vancouver because of it.
Myers should remain an important part of Vancouver’s blueline throughout this new deal. He displayed this season that he can still be an impactful shutdown defender who can chip in some offense along with it.
Myers is also taking a pay cut on this new deal, as he had a $6 million AAV on his recently expired contract. Now, his AAV is $3 million. That's good value for the Canucks.
In 365 games as a Sabre from 2009-10 to 2014-15, Myers had 45 goals, 151 points, and a minus-31 rating.
