One Sabres forward is standing out as a possible trade target for the Islanders.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Arthur Staple discussed the New York Islanders' expected plan of being buyers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. While things could change on that front over the next month leading up to the deadline, Staple discussed 10 players whom the Islanders could consider targeting over these few weeks.
Interestingly, one Sabres forward was among the names Staple listed as a possible target for the Islanders – Peyton Krebs.

Here is what Staple wrote about Krebs: "An area that Lamoriello could look to this deadline season is younger players who may not be exactly what the teams that developed them hoped they’d be. Krebs is only 23 and finishing his entry-level deal but he’s not an integral piece of the floundering Sabres. He’s likely a bottom-sixer/penalty-killer type, a place where the Islanders are aging rapidly. He might not help this season but he’s the right kind of player to take a flier on."
Krebs, 23, was one of the main pieces that the Sabres landed in the big Jack Eichel trade back in 2021-22. While Krebs started his tenure off hot with the Sabres (22 points in 48 games), his pace of production has dropped off over the last two seasons. In 47 games this campaign, he has just three goals and six assists.
Krebs has primarily been playing on the Sabres' fourth line, and the club has a surplus of forwards. This is the case with both their NHL roster and notable prospects in their system. As a result of this, perhaps there is a chance that the Sabres move on from him if he does not make a bigger impact soon.
Yet, at the same time, Krebs is only 23 years old and still has time to improve his offensive game. As a result, if the Sabres were to move him to the Islanders or elsewhere, they would need to get back an impactful player or notable draft pick in return.
