This Sabres forward is being viewed as the team's top trading asset for the deadline.

Now that the All-Star break is coming to a close, the Buffalo Sabres are gearing up for the second half of the season. They are set to return to the ice tomorrow night (Feb. 6) against the Dallas Stars, and their goal is to end the season on a high note.
With it being February, we are just one month away from the trade deadline. The expectation surrounding the Sabres is that they will be selling away some of their players. Players like Jordan Greenway, Erik Johnson, Zemgus Girgensons, and Eric Robinson have come up as possible trade candidates. However, according to The Bleacher Report's Adam Gretz, the Sabres' top bargaining chip is forward Victor Olofsson.

Olofsson has, of course, been in the rumor mill since the offseason, as the Sabres actively looked to move him this summer. His 2023-24 season has also been tough, as he has just four goals and 12 points in 33 games. With that, he was only dressed for three games during the month of January.
While Olofsson has struggled this season, Gretz said this about the skilled winger as a trade target: "Olofsson hasn't had a great year, but he does have a track record of performing well on the power play and might have some value to a contender who is looking to take a chance on some cheap scoring depth."
If Olofsson can bounce back, he certainly could be a good addition to a playoff team's third line. Keep in mind, he had a career-high 28 goals to go along with 40 points just last season. With that, he also had a career-high 49 points the season before.
It will be intriguing to see if Olofsson finds a new home before the deadline passes from here. Once the bigger-name scoring forwards are off the board, I wouldn't be surprised if a bit of a trade market forms for him.
