The 2023-24 season was incredibly frustrating for the Buffalo Sabres. In a season where they were expected to take a big step forward, they instead extended their playoff drought to 13 years.

While things did not go as planned for the Sabres last season, they did have some bright spots. JJ Peterka was one of them, as the 2020 second-round pick broke out in a big way for the Sabres. After posting a 32-point campaign in 77 games with the Sabres in 2022-23, he set new career highs with 28 goals, 22 assists, and 50 points in 82 games last season. Needless to say, it was a big year for the promising youngster.

After truly breaking out for the Sabres last season, Peterka should continue to improve next season. When looking at the Sabres' current roster, he is expected to have a spot in their top six. In addition, he should see plenty of time on their power play, which should help improve his stats.

Peterka showed last season that he has 30-goal potential, and it would not be surprising in the slightest if he hit that mark next season. He will have a more significant role, and he should only get better as he continues to adjust to the sport's most competitive league.

It will be fun to see what kind of season Peterka can put together for the Sabres from here.
