The Sabres should be eyeing this trade candidate from the Red Wings.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman released his latest 32 Thoughts column, where he discussed each team's potential plans for the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. When it came to the Detroit Red Wings, he shared that general manager Steve Yzerman is looking to trade defenseman Justin Holl.

When noting that the Sabres need some help on the right side of their defense, it is fair to wonder if they could make a push for Holl over these next few days. This is especially so when noting that he is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, meaning that he would be more than a rental.

Holl, 32, could be a nice addition to the Sabres' second pairing or third pairing. Along with that, his defense-first style of play would make him a clear option for their penalty kill if acquired.

With Erik Johnson potentially being moved by the Sabres at some point during the week, Holl could be a long-term replacement for the former.

In 35 games this season with the Red Wings, Holl has five assists, 51 hits, 34 blocks, and a plus-7 rating.
