The Sabres have an interesting trade target from the Blue Jackets.

The Buffalo Sabres have some rental candidates as we inch closer to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, like Victor Olofsson, Erik Johnson, and Zemgus Girgensons. While it is likely that they will sell off some assets, they are also looking to add if it benefits them beyond this season.
While they certainly need another right-shot defenseman, they also would benefit by adding a hard-nosed forward with skill to their roster. It is a reason why they have been connected to Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton. However, they have another potential trade target from the Columbus Blue Jackets, who plays a very similar game to Laughton and is worth pursuing – Boone Jenner.

Jenner, 30, is exactly the kind of veteran forward that the Sabres could use right now. This is not only because he is impactful offensively but also because he provides grit and is a well-respected leader – hence why he sports the 'C' in Columbus.
While the Sabres have veterans like Girgensons, Johnson, and Kyle Okposo on their roster, they are all pending UFAs and are not guaranteed to be back next season. Jenner, on the other hand, is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season. As a result, he would be a long-term mentor for the Sabres' young players if acquired.
It will be interesting to see if the Sabres enter the Jenner sweepstakes, but they certainly should have him on their radar. In 37 games this season, he has 16 goals, 21 points, and 80 hits.
