The Sabres need another top-six forward, and they have an intriguing option from the Hurricanes.
The Buffalo Sabres are expected to browse the free-agent market for a top-six winger. It is understandable, as their forward group could use a boost. This is especially true when noting that the Sabres are looking to end their 13-year playoff drought in 2024-25.
Because of this, Teuvo Teravainen is a player the Sabres should consider targeting if he does not re-sign with the Carolina Hurricanes by July 1.
Teravainen, 29, has been an impactful top-six forward for several seasons, and that remained the case in 2023-24. In 76 regular-season games with the Hurricanes, he scored 25 goals - a new career high - while posting 53 points and a plus-15 rating. He also had six points in 11 playoff games for the Canes this year.
While this season was another good one for Teravainen, he has the potential to produce even more. He has had at least four seasons with at least 63 points. His best season came in 2018-19, when he had 76 points in 82 games.
If the Sabres signed Teravainen, he would be a significant addition to their second line. He would also be a clear option for both of their special-team units, as he plays a strong two-way game.
