This Sabres forward is creating some buzz as a trade candidate.
Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner is creating plenty of chatter as a top buyout candidate heading into the first buyout window. GM Kevyn Adams stated that "nothing's off the table" with Skinner, so the Sabres are considering all their options.
In his most recent Trade Targets Board for Daily Faceoff, NHL insider Frank Seravalli listed Skinner as also one of the top trade candidates for this offseason.
Seravalli noted: "But if Buffalo didn’t pour cold water all over the notion of a buyout, then you can guarantee they’ve floated him in trade talks, and retaining is easier than a buyout. Plus, if there was a market for Dubois, surely someone would like Skinner at a discounted price."
This is certainly an interesting point from Seravalli. The Washington Capitals notably took on Pierre-Luc Dubois' $8.5 million cap hit until 2030-31 without the Los Angeles Kings retaining any of it. Thus, if the Sabres would be willing to eat up a chunk of Skinner's $9 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season, maybe a club would take a chance on him. He's still a productive player at this stage of his career.
Skinner, 32, appeared in 74 regular-season games this season, posting 24 goals, 46 points, and a minus-2 rating.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Skinner this offseason from here. Whether it's a buyout or a trade, something seems to be on the way.
