Sometimes, a fresh start can benefit an NHL player. We have certainly seen that with Ryan McLeod this season.
During this past off-season, the Buffalo Sabres acquired McLeod and prospect Tyler Tullio from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for former top prospect Matthew Savoie. Since then, McLeod has emerged as a key part of the Sabres' roster.
McLeod has already hit a new career-high with 14 goals in 52 games this season. However, by the time this season ends, that should not be the only new career high he sets.
McLeod needs just one point and three assists to set new career highs with those stats. He set them during the 2023-24 season with the Oilers, where he had 12 goals, 18 assists, and 30 points in 81 games.
Since joining the Sabres, McLeod's pace of production has improved, and he is now inches away from having his best offensive season thus far. He is only heating up as the campaign rolls on, too, posting four goals and six points over his last six games.
It will be fascinating to see how quickly McLeod hits new career highs with assists and points from here.
