Calgary Flames netminder Dustin Wolf has been outstanding on home ice. Can he maintain this pace and collect 20 home wins this season?
When discussing Calgary Flames goaltending records, the conversation usually begins and ends with Miikka Kiprusoff. Before he rewrote the team's record book, most milestones belonged to Hall of Famer Mike Vernon.
Today, the Flames have one of the best goalie prospects in professional hockey in Dustin Wolf.
If the former two-time AHL Best Goaltender winner remains in Calgary long-term, he will be on a collision course with many of the team's goalie records.
Speaking of opportunities to get his name into the team's record book, Wolf is currently 7-1-0 at the Scotiabank Saddledome this season.
He's slated to start against the Florida Panthers on Saturday. With Dan Vladar injured, Wolf has a chance to play the remainder of the Flames' homestand, which takes them into the Christmas break.
Only four goalies in Calgary history have won 20 games on home ice: Kiprusoff (six times), Mike Vernon (twice), Dan Bouchard (once), and the most recent one, Jacob Markstrom (2021-22).
As the Flames prepare to play game No. 31 of the 2024-25 season, they still have 26 games left at the Saddledome. If Wolf can finish 2024 with three more home wins, he'll be halfway to 20 with 21 games scheduled at home in 2025.
Even though Wolf is a long shot to match Kiprusoff's record of 29 home wins from 2005-06, the 23-year-old has a good chance to become the fifth goalie in Flames history to win at least 20 games at the Saddledome in a single season.
Whether Calgary stays in the playoff race and clinches a berth, Wolf will be a significant factor in that push.
He's the goalie of the future and the present, an elite talent who will be mentioned in the same conversations as Kiprusoff and Vernon in the coming seasons.
