The Carolina Hurricanes aren't expecting either forward Andrei Svechnikov nor defenseman Dmitry Orlov to be out long-term with their respective injuries.

Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour was asked about Svechnikov's status at practice on Thursday, where the Russian was notably absent.

"He was out here in street clothes today," Brind'Amour said. "Said he's feeling better but obviously not ready to go."

When asked if he thinks it will be a long-term absence:

"I didn't anticipate it to be," Brind'Amour said. "Same with Orly. He practiced today and I think Orly has a better chance of playing."

The Hurricanes play the Detroit Red Wings Friday night and both players will be game-time decisions.

Orlov, 33, has missed the team's past three games with a minor injury, although he's been practicing with the team since.

The Russian blueliner has four goals and 24 points in 62 games this season. Rookie Scott Morrow has been playing in his place.

Svechnikov, 24, has missed one game since sustaining an apparent upper-body injury late in the team's game against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

The Russian forward has 18 goals and 43 points in 63 games this season. In his place, Tyson Jost has drawn back into the lineup.
