The AHL today announced the rosters for its 2024 All-Star Weekend and it was revealed that Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dylan Coghlan was one of players selected.
Hilariously enough, despite not having an AHL affiliate this season, the Canes still managed to get a player in.
Coghlan, who was loaned to the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL after clearing waivers back in October, is currently tied for the league lead in goals by a defenseman with Charlotte's Lucas Carlsson.
The blueliner has 10 goals and 21 points in 30 games this season with St. Louis' AHL affiliate.
Without an official AHL affiliate this year, the Hurricanes loaned a handful or prospects to various teams and Coghlan has by far done the best among those players, well earning the right to be named an All-Star.
Coghlan, who was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in the Max Pacioretty trade, played 17 games for Carolina last season and had three assists in 17 games.
The 2024 AHL All-Star Classic will take place in California and is hosted by the San Jose Barracudas. The skills competition will take place Feb. 4 and the games will take place Feb. 5.
