The Carolina Hurricanes made quite a splash on Tuesday, landing defenseman K'Andre Miller from the New York Rangers for a package of just picks and prospects.

They also added a few depth pieces, but they aren't satisfied yet. Despite a lack of true top-six options in this free agency class, there is still one big target remaining: Danish forward Nikolaj Ehlers.

The top target has been fielding offers from teams and it was reported that he was going to take his time choosing a team.

Carolina is one of those teams in consideration though.

Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky confirmed to the media in Raleigh that the team had been in contact with Ehlers' agent and now they're just playing the waiting game to see where this goes.

"We've had talks with his agent and he's taking his time to field offers," Tulsky said. "He's obviously a very popular person right now and we're waiting to see where that goes."

Ehlers, 29, is a talented winger who's coming off of a 24 goal and 63 point campaign last season.

He's an eight time 20+ goal scorer and has broken the 50-point mark six times.

The speedy forward plays a responsible two-way game and would fit perfectly into the Cane', who have tried on multiple times to trade for him, style.

The ball is in Ehlers court though, and he's had offers from the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning among others too.

But hopefully a good offer, a sound culture and team in Carolina and a potential countrymen in Frederik Andersen can help get the deal across the finish line.
