Three Keys - CAR @ SJS 10-17-23

What - Game 4 (2-1-0)
When - 10:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17
Where - SAP Center; San Jose, CA
How to Watch - Bally Sports South

The Carolina Hurricanes (2-1-0) will be facing their third-straight California-based opponent tonight as they complete the trifecta with a game against the San Jose Sharks (0-1-1) at the SAP Center.

Carolina has not been hot to start this road trip, coming off of a 5-4 shootout win over the LA Kings and a 6-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, but there were obvious improvements in their overall game Sunday night.

The hope is that the team can carry over that momentum and have a much better 60-minute effort in San Jose.

Defense has definitely been an issue for the Canes, so perhaps we could see Jalen Chatfield — who has sat the last two games — draw back in.

Frederik Andersen will more than likely get the start.

Andersen has a 7-8-1 record all-time record against the Sharks with a 0.927 save percentage.

The Sharks, who many are projecting to be the worst team in the league this season, have scored just a single goal in each of their games this year, a 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and a 2-1 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

However, Mackenzie Blackwood is attempting to have a career resurgence in San Jose and had a tremendous game against the Avalanche, stopping 51 shots Saturday night.

He will more than likely get the start for the Sharks.

Blackwood has a 2-0-1 all-time record against the Hurricanes with a 0.932 save percentage and one shutout.

  • Tony DeAngelo: 3-game point streak

Game Notes

  • The last time these two teams met, the Hurricanes scored two goals (Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas) in the last two minutes of regulation to force overtime where they ultimately won on a Necas goal.
  • The Canes have won the last three meetings and hold an all-time record of 24-20-2 over the Sharks.
