Fresh off a historic championship run, the veteran center solidifies his legendary status in Raleigh, securing his future to anchor the franchise’s culture and defensive core.
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed captain Jordan Staal to a one-year extension the team announced Tuesday night.
The deal, which kicks in for the 2027-28 season, is for $4.9 million, with a potential $5.1 million earnable in performance bonuses.
"Jordan is not only our captain, he’s the bedrock of the culture we’ve established in this organization," said Carolina GM Eric Tulsky in a press release. "His leadership and on-ice performance throughout last season and especially in the playoffs was a primary factor in bringing the Stanley Cup back to Raleigh."
The 38-year-old centerman is coming off of a 20 goal, 36 point regular season, which he followed up with a Conn Smythe worthy postseason, potting eight goals and 12 points in 19 games en route to the franchise's second Stanley Cup.
Staal has played more games as a Carolina Hurricane than any other player in history and sits only behind Ron Francis for the franchise record as well.
He ranks tied for seventh all-time in franchise history for goals scored and fifth in points, while also being one of the game's best shutdown centers.
The veteran is the ultimate leader for the Hurricanes as well, leading both on and off the ice and he's been a critical reason for the team's success.
