On May 3, the Carolina Hurricanes announced that they signed goaltender Frederik Andersen to a one-year, $2.75 million contract extension. This was just three days after the Hurricanes signed forward Taylor Hall to a three-year, $9.5 million extension. With this, the Hurricanes have certainly been busy since defeating the New Jersey Devils in the first round last week.

Andersen was a notable reason for the Hurricanes' first-round series win over the Devils, as he played excellently. In four appearances during the series, he had a 3-1 record, a .936 save percentage, and a 1.59 goals-against average. This is after he had a 13-8-1 record, a 2.50 goals-against average, and a .899 save percentage in 22 regular-season games this campaign.

When noting that the Hurricanes got Andersen to stick around at a reasonable price, it is hard not to like this signing for the Metropolitan Division club. This is especially so with the 35-year-old goaltender continuing to perform well for the Hurricanes. Furthermore, when noting that the goalie free-agent market this summer is weak, keeping Andersen around looks like the right decision for the Hurricanes.

Andersen has been very good since his arrival with the Hurricanes, and the truth is in his stats. In 124 games over four seasons with Carolina, he has an 82-35-5 record, a .915 save percentage, and a 2.27 goals-against average.

It will now be interesting to see how Andersen performs after landing his contract extension from here.
