The Carolina Hurricanes have placed three players on waivers today, the day before the NHL trade deadline.
The Canes placed goaltender Antti Raanta, defenseman Tony DeAngelo and forward Brendan Lemieux on waivers.
The move will open up three roster spots and approximately $3.1 million in cap space.
The Hurricanes have been rumored to be in on a few players, most notably Jake Guentzel and Frank Vatrano, so these moves could a predecessor to a larger one.
Raanta, who just returned from IR, has played in 24 games this season and has a 12-7-2 record, a 0.872 save percentage and a 2.99 goals against average.
He's been placed on waivers once already this season, but there are some teams that have had some pretty poor goaltending, so you never know.
DeAngelo has played in 27 games and has three goals and 10 points and Lemieux has played in 23 games and has two goals and three points.
The two were routinely healthy scratches and were simply depth pieces with Carolina. If they clear waivers, they will continue to serve in that role.
