Mark Jankowski will be sticking around with the Hurricanes.
After sweeping the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, the Carolina Hurricanes have now made a notable move.
The Hurricanes have announced that they have signed forward Mark Jankowski to a two-year, $3.7 million contract extension. Starting next season, Jankowski will have a $1.85 million cap hit for Carolina.
Jankowski was a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) and could have tested the market on July 1. However, with this extension, he will instead be sticking around with the Hurricanes.
Seeing the Hurricanes keep Jankowski around is not necessarily surprising, as he has been a great fit on their roster since his arrival at last season's trade deadline. He is also coming off a strong regular-season, recording 11 goals, 10 assists, 21 points, and a plus-7 rating in 68 games.
In 87 regular-season games over two seasons with the Hurricanes, Jankowski has recorded 19 goals, 10 assists, 29 points, and a plus-11 rating. He also played in 15 playoff games for the Hurricanes over the last two years, where he has two assists.
