The Carolina Hurricanes recalled netminder Yaniv Perets from the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL this morning in response to netminder Antti Raanta being placed on waivers.

Perets has played in 11 games in the ECHL this year and has a 5-5-1 record with a 0.916 save percentage, 2.38 goals against average and one shutout.

He practiced this morning with the Hurricanes and spoke to the media following practice. Here's what he had to say:

    Yaniv Perets

On if he was surprised: Yeah, for sure, but hockey... anything can happen in this sport. Just happy to be here. Happy that the opportunity presented itself . Just going to work as hard as I can. Definitely crazy, but we're here now. Just gotta keep moving forward.

On the last 24 hours: We were on the road in Three Rivers, Quebec where we had some games. Then I just got the notice that I was coming up here. Called my parents right away. Pretty exciting moment obviously. Definitely had some tears, but it's alright. Here now. That's all that matters, right?

On his season in Norfolk: That's been going well. We have a good team there. Good group of guys and we've been winning some games. It's been fun.

On his mindset: Just try to think of it as just hockey. Go out there and if the opportunity presents itself, just be ready and compete hard. Try not to build things up too much. Just going to play some hockey.

On going from the ECHL to the NHL: I haven't really thought about it too deeply. Just going to try to play hockey. That's it. I don't know. It is what it is. The situation is what it is. Just going to go out there and try my best.

    Rod Brind'Amour

On Yaniv Perets: We know he's a battler and he's a great kid. It's a huge step up from what he's been used to but we'll see. It's all we can do at this point. There's a little bit of unknown on everything that's going on

On if it's more special being that he already knows Perets: Anytime a kid gets the chance it's great. I don't think it's any more less, but anytime you see a guy put in the work and can make their debut in the NHL, it's special. It's a big moment.
