Chatfield, Orlov, Brind'Amour on Comeback: "It was a great win for the boys"

Game 12 - CAR@NYI 4-3 OTW

The Carolina Hurricanes overcame a three-goal deficit to beat the New York Islanders 4-3 in overtime Saturday Night at UBS Arena.

Dmitry Orlov and Jalen Chatfield each picked up their first goals of the season as the Hurricanes attempted over 100 shots.

After the game, coach Rod Brind'Amour, Orlov and Chatfield spoke to the media. Here's what they had to say:

Jalen Chatfield

On what made the comeback possible: "We were just relentless. Going down like that, we knew we had a lot of hockey left. We got to our game and you could see it out there. We just kept pushing till the very end."

On the shot surplus: "That's our game. We want to get pucks to the net. We want to be hard to play against, keep it simple, moving pucks low to high, getting shots on net and getting bodies in front. It paid off."

On his goal: "Just trying to get it to the net. I knew that I had a little bit of time and I looked up, and I don't know exactly how it went in, but it did and I was happy because we had gotten scored on right before that so it was nice to get that one back and keep the boys going and get our momentum back."

On taking four of a possible six points from the road trip: "It's huge. We obviously wanted to get all six, but coming out with four, we'll take it. We're going to take the positives, especially the back half of the game and even at the start. I think we did a lot of things right tonight and we're going to carry that into the next game."

Dmitry Orlov

On the resilience of the group: "Today we had a pretty good game. Some breaks happened that helped to keep us going. Offensively, I think we did a good job. Had a lot of zone time, a lot of shots and I think it's hard for other teams to play against our system. We need to do a little more of a better job though in front of the net. Screening the goalie. It should be like that in our heads to get to the front of the net so the goalie doesn't see it and it's harder to make a save. We put up a lot of shots, but sometimes he sees it and it's not working out well. But still, it was a good game after New York [Rangers]. We needed these points, especially when you play against divisional teams. It's huge for the playoff fighting. Overall today it was a pretty good game for us."

On his goal: "I just jumped in the rush and KK made a good pass to me. I tried to shoot on the net and it hit the defenseman's skate, but I'll take it. We needed that goal."

Rod Brind'Amour

On the comeback: "Obviously it was tough to go down three. We weren't playing poorly, we just made a couple of mistakes and their talent got us. Barzal made a hell of a play on the one goal and the shorty was unfortunate, but then I just loved the way we played the rest of the way. I even commented in-between periods like if we could keep playing, win or lose, that's just how we have to do things and then the third was even better. It was a great win for the boys. They deserved it."

On the third period scoring: "I think it says that when we get to our game, it works. We just have to figure out how to get to it from the start, because whenever we get down, it's a lot easier to go with it. We don't want to be doing that though. That's not a recipe for success, but I loved the way we played tonight, especially after we got down."

On defensive scoring: "It's crucial. We need everyone to contribute, but in today's game, it's all about getting your defense in on the offense. Nice to see both those guys connect, especially Orlov as the newcomer. I think that was a big weight off his shoulders."
