The Carolina chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association has selected Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho for two end-of-season awards for the Carolina Hurricanes 2025 season.

Jarvis was selected as the team MVP and Aho was selected for the Josef Vasicek Award, which recognizes cooperation with the local media.

Jarvis, 23, led the team in goals for the first time in his career, netting 32 in total alongside a franchise record five shorthanded tallies.

The 2020 first-round pick also tied his career high in points with 67 in 73 games, just seven behind Aho.

"I still have a lot of stuff that I want to get better at and work on and I think that's the most exciting part for me," Jarvis said. "That I know there's still more steps that I have to take to grow my game and hopefully I'll take the right steps to get there. It's kind of fun when you don't really know what your limit is and you just have to work every day to get toward it. That's where my head's at right now."

Outside of his offensive production, Jarvis also had the second lowest expected goals against per 60 total amongst the entire team (2.09), showcasing a strong defensive game, that could see him as a candidate for the Selke this year, a huge testament to the work he's put in in the past two years to rebuild his game.

"I definitely wasn't a great player at the time, so I appreciated them taking the time with me," Jarvis said. "They could have kind of left me to the wolves and let me figure it out by myself, but they gave me all the resources I needed and the guidance I needed to grow my game and become a 200-foot player and really improve that way. Just for them to do that for me and not leave me to the wolves, I really appreciate it.

"There's always people better than you, people that you're chasing, so it was just a matter of I wanted to get to those people's levels and how am I going to do that? I don't know everything, so I have to learn and you learn from people who have done it before and thankfully I have a coach that [should be] in the Hockey Hall of Fame and who knows what it takes to get there and I'd be stupid not to listen to him and his guidance."

Jarvis' MVP nod also ends Aho's streak of two straight seasons being voted as the team's top player (he had been named team MVP in six of the last seven seasons).

Upon learning this, Jarvis had just one thing to say: "Suck it, Fishy."

Aho, 27, is finishing up his ninth NHL season and from the time he was drafted in 2015 to now, you can see the monumental growth in not only his English, but also his confidence and willingness to talk with the media.

"Obviously it's a part of the business and I definitely feel more comfortable these days than nine years ago when I got in the league," Aho said. "I've seen more and now have a little bit of experience in areas of the game and out of the game which I feel like helps me give you guys better answers and all that. I think it's just natural to be more comfortable in front of you guys and speaking English and all that."

He's grown into a true leader for the team and is always willing to talk to the media and give thoughtful answers even when coming off of difficult losses or tough situations.

"In front of the team, it's a lot easier," Aho said. "There's no cameras and stuff like that and those are your brothers and you know them really well. So I think it's easier to speak in front of your brothers than maybe in front of the cameras. But I definitely play a big role on the ice, so I have to carry myself in front of the media as well. I think it's part of the business, like I said earlier, and I don't expect anything but that."

Jarvis won the award last year.
