Perry Nelson-Imagn Images - Blackhawks Provide Updates for 3 Injured Players

The Chicago Blackhawks aren't the healthiest team in the league this season and the organization is dealing with a few injuries still. Not only does Luke Richardson provide an update on Seth Jones and Laurent Brossoit, but Andreas Athanasiou is now on the shelf as well.

Richardson gave a timeline for Jones, saying, "Just an update on Seth (Jones) is we're probably looking around four weeks. Unfortunate for us and him...rolling along pretty good. But that's just the nature of the business."

Jones was having a strong start to the season with two goals and 10 points in 17 games while logging a ton of minutes. He plays on both the top power play and on the penalty kill while serving as the number one defenseman on the top pairing.

The void Jones is leaving for the next month is going to have to be filled by committee, but it hasn't started well and will be tough to match the points and big minutes more than anything.

Richardson spoke about Brossoit as well, saying, "I don't think there's a setback yet. I just don't have any new updates on him." Soderblom has played great this season and "it's letting (Brossoit) have the chance to not rush back. Hopefully soon we can give you more of an indefinite update timeline."

Brossoit has yet to suit up for the Blackhawks after signing a two-year deal to compete with Petr Mrazek for starts. It is great for the Blackhawks to see Soderblom be much improved as they will likely have to run with him a good chunk of the season more. The way he has improved, it could create a logjam in net when Brossoit does come back and create complications next season.

Athanasiou was put on waivers a little bit ago because he just couldn't get in the lineup and hasn't been the same player since returning from his last injury. After just three games into his time with the Rockford IceHogs, he suffered a wrist injury and will miss four to six weeks.

Athanasiou scored two goals in those three games and was showing his speed, but upon his return, I expect he will continue playing in the AHL unless injuries for the Blackhawks have piled up by then.
