Winnipeg Jets Want Jonathan Toews To Consider Coming To Them

Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has a suitor in the Winnipeg Jets as he tries to come back.

Jonathan Toews was a pillar of the Chicago Blackhawks organization for a long time. In addition to being great as an individual hockey player, he had the Stanley Cup handed to him by the commissioner of the National Hockey League three times. His character and leadership matched what he brought on the ice.

Toews hasn’t played since the end of the 2022-23 season. The Blackhawks didn’t want to bring him back as they moved on from the glory days and he took some time away from the game to better his overall health.

Now, he is looking to return possibly. We know it won’t be with Chicago but plenty of teams will be looking for a middle six center who could win face-offs, play well in his end, and contribute some depth scoring.

One team that has expressed interest in him is the Winnipeg Jets. Kevin Cheveldayoff told the Winnipeg Free Press that he would be interested in making a move like that.

We know that Toews has begun skating and is getting close to the point where his body is ready for NHL action. A competitor like him wouldn’t return if he wasn’t ready to compete at a high level.

The cool thing about this possibility is the fact that Toews hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba. After all of those years with the Blackhawks, finishing up with his hometown team would be a wonderful ending.

Cheveldayoff was also there in Chicago during some of Toews’ early years with the Blackhawks. The two have worked together before so the relationship is there to get this done if both sides see fit.

As of now, the Jets are one of the best teams in the NHL. They enter play on Friday with a record of 32-14-3 which leads the entire Western Conference and is second in the entire league. With a veteran leader like Toews added to the mix, they would have what it takes to win the whole thing.
