It has been announced that former Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jack Johnson will be joining Ohio State’s women's hockey team as an Assistant Head Coach.

He will be joining head coach Nadine Muzerall, who has been the Head Coach of Ohio State's women's team since the 2016-17 season. She has helped Ohio State win two NCAA National Championships. One in the 2021-22 season, beating Minnesota Duluth 3-2 and securing their first championship, and the 2023-24 season, beating Wisconsin 1-0 to secure their second. 

He will also be joining assistant head coaches Kelsey Cline and Logan David on the Buckeyes' Staff.

This is what Muzerall had to say about Johnson joining the staff.

"We're really excited to have a new member join our family here at Ohio State," Muzerall said. "To bring in Jack Johnson is going to continue to make our program better, both on the ice and really contribute to recruiting. When we talk about Ohio State, we talk about family and how we're all united. I think it's very important that he exemplifies that. He's going to bring that to our program and I think our recruits are going to see that and I know our girls are going to feel that." 

Johnson himself played in the NCAA before being drafted third overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. He played for the University of Michigan and, over two seasons, played 74 games and finished with 26 goals and 45 assists for 75 points.

While his time with the Avalanche was short, the impact he had on the team, including playing with his brother Jack Johnson, was felt not only on the ice but in the locker room as well. In 179 games with the Avalanche, he scored six goals and 23 assists for 29 points and helped the Avalanche secure their third Stanley Cup.
