Cale Makar left the game against the Calgary Flames due to an upper-body injury
Heading into the third period, Cale Makar was not on the bench to start the period. Later, as the period went on, Avalanche PR announced that he would miss the rest of the game due to an upper-body injury. His last shift in the game was late into the second period.
Before leaving the game, Makar had three assists and two shots on goal in two periods of play. Two of his three assists came on the power play, as the Avalanche dominated the Flames, controlling the pace of play to their style and sending everything they could against Dustin Wolf and, eventually, Devin Cooley, who was pulled after the fourth goal in the first period.
It's a brutal injury, as he is now up to 20 goals and 55 assists for 75 points, in a very tight race for the Norris Trophy, and he is helping the Avalanche secure first place in the Central Division and the Presidents' Trophy as well.
We won’t know the severity of the injury until the game is over, as the Avalanche has nine more games remaining, including their last regular-season matchup against the Dallas Stars on Saturday, April 4.
