The Columbus Blue Jackets are staring down elimination from playoff contention for the second time.
Last night, they did their part—grinding out a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres to stay alive.
That win puts the pressure squarely on the Montreal Canadiens, who face the Ottawa Senators tonight. If Montreal wins in regulation, they’ll punch their ticket to the playoffs and officially eliminate the Blue Jackets from contention.
But if the Canadiens lose, Columbus still has a pulse. They’ll get a chance to keep the dream going in a back-to-back this weekend, against the Washington Capitals.
There’s a lot riding on Montreal dropping tonight’s game—and tomorrow’s against the Toronto Maple Leafs. All the Blue Jackets can do now is keep winning… and maybe send up a prayer or two to the hockey gods that fate swings in their favor.
