The Columbus Blue Jackets are dealing with another injury, this time up front. Miles Wood left the home opener yesterday after taking a high stick to the eye area.

Thankfully, it missed his actual eye, which could have made things much worse—similar to what happened to former Blue Jackets defenseman Bryan Berard.

Today, head coach Dean Evason provided an update on Wood.

He said Wood will be out for at least a week but is otherwise okay, adding that there’s no further information at this time.

It looked like Wood was hoping to return to the game, but once the full extent of the injury was realized, the team decided to keep him out. He’ll now take the next week to recover.

Evason gave no update on defenseman Erik Gudbranson, who was injured in the game against the Minnesota Wild.

Now that the Blue Jackets will be without Wood for at least a week, there’s a good chance Yegor Chinakhov draws into the lineup and makes his season debut.
