Over the weekend, a report from Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects came out about the Columbus Blue Jackets being open to moving both of their first-round picks.

In the article, Robinson talked about the possibility of the Blue Jackets packaging the picks together to land an established player who can help push the team over the edge. He wrote:

"Meanwhile, Columbus has two bullets in their chamber to unload if the right deal comes together. They could package No. 14 and No. 20 to target an established player. The Blue Jackets want to accelerate their timeline, and it’s believed they have already had exploratory talks with multiple clubs."

If that’s where things are headed, then GM Don Waddell would essentially be telling the rest of the league that the Blue Jackets are no longer rebuilding — they’re officially shifting into win-now mode and looking to push for a playoff spot.

One name that stands out as a potential target if Columbus does package both picks is Jason Robertson from the Dallas Stars. That’s a big swing, but the kind of move that would make sense if you're dealing two first-rounders. Of course, there are likely plenty of names being discussed behind closed doors by Waddell and his front office.

The Blue Jackets currently hold the No. 14 and No. 20 picks — two selections that could land them very good prospects. But if they do decide to move both, the return would need to be significant. If it’s a forward, we’re talking about a top-line scoring winger. If it’s a defenseman, it would likely need to be a right-handed shot who could play next to Zach Werenski.

Personally, I’d be surprised if Waddell ends up trading both picks unless it’s for a player who could completely change the direction of the franchise. There’s a world where one of the picks gets moved, but seeing both — especially No. 14 — go in the same deal feels hard to believe. Then again, anything is possible.
