Yesterday, it was revealed that the Pittsburgh Penguins have signed Hall of Famer Marc-Andre Fleury to a professional tryout (PTO), and he will suit up against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sept. 27 in a pre-season game.

For the Penguins, it’s special to see Fleury return to where it all started and play at least one more game with the organization before officially retiring.

Penguins GM Kyle Dubas spoke about the PTO, saying:

“The entire Penguins organization is honored to welcome Marc-Andre Fleury back to the ice in Pittsburgh. This past year everyone witnessed how beloved and respected Marc is in the game of hockey, but the adoration goes beyond his accolades and career. Marc means so much to our team, our fans and the City of Pittsburgh because of the person he is and the example he set. The Penguins feel he and his family are most deserving of this opportunity to celebrate this full-circle moment back where it all started in front of the black and gold faithful.”

For the Blue Jackets, it’s also a unique opportunity. Players who haven’t faced Fleury before, or maybe never thought they’d get the chance, will finally line up against one of the greatest goalies of all time.

The Sept. 27 game will be the Blue Jackets’ fifth of their seven-game pre-season schedule. That’s usually the point where a team dresses something close to its opening-night roster. It will be interesting to see what kind of lineup the Blue Jackets decide to ice, especially with Fleury in net for at least part of the game.

Fans of both teams can buy tickets here to see Fleury in action at least one last time.
