Welcome to another edition to of Cannon City Quotables.

Last night, the Columbus Blue Jackets were in action against the Toronto Maple Leafs and they had quite a game. They beat the Maple Leafs, rather easily 6-3.

The Blue Jackets are now winners of three straight games, turning around a rather difficult start to the season. They now are looking to extend that to four games on Saturday against the St. Louis Blues.

But, before that let's take a look at some of the quotes from the players and coaches from the game.

    Columbus Blue Jackets:

    Dean Evason: Head Coach

    • Really liked how Charlie Coyle's line played - finally got rewarded for their hard play
    • He loves how the depth has stepped up, including on the blue line and goalies
    • Feels that this game is a stepping stone for the rest of the back-to-backs going forward
    • Werenski sat for some extra shifts for load management
    • Feels nice when the depth scoring can step up even if the top stars aren't filling the net

    Charlie Coyle: 4 A, +5, 14:54 TOI

    • Didn't expect the line to click that well but felt that they were building chemistry
    • Mentioned in games like this, most times the top two lines cancel out and the game becomes about depth players
    • They want to be a line that's reliable defensively but can contribute offensively
    • His line went over fine tuning details at practice before the game
    • Mentioned that the team has four lines that are reliable and can chip in
    • It's all about winning your matchups
    • Feel the CBJ room has a lot of unselfish people
    • In a back-to-back, you need to out-change them
    • Players need to get off before they feel tired helps not being held into your own zone
    • Everyone did the little things right
    • Felt the team realized you need to bank points early, which caused the change in their play

    Mathieu Olivier: 1 G, 3 A, +4, 1 S, 2 H, 14:03 TOI

    • His line felt good about their play, but talked it out and it paid off
    • The team's approach to back-to-back has changed, earning them 2 wins already
    • Feels like this year the team has learned how to stay composed
    • The depth showing up speaks to their 4-line approach
    • Feels this approach will help them down the stretch in the final 20 games of the season
    • Felt his line scoring their first goals in the back-to-back will help their confidence

    Cole Sillinger: 2 G, 1 A, +4, 4 S, 16:20 TOI

    • Felt his line is on the same page lately
    • Coyle brings a veteran presence and defensive reliability
    • Not thinking about last year and their lack of success on back-to-backs
    • Felt the second half of the back-to-back being at home helped a lot
    • Not thinking about pressure to score

    Toronto Maple Leafs:

    Craig Berube: Head Coach

    • Felt his team forced pucks
    • Complicated the game too much
    • Boils down to being beaten by a good rush team
    • Felt the momentum changed a lot when they gave up the goal following Blais goal
    • Toronto didn't take care of the puck and fell into Columbus' tenacities

    Sammy Blais: 1 G, 1 A, 3 S, 5 H, 10:55 TOI

    • Felt good to draw into the lineup, after sitting out for a while
    • Enjoyed being back in the NHL and scored
    • Felt good after finding the rhythm in the first
    • Second period was the turning point in the game
    • Columbus capitalized on their odd-man rushes

    Auston Matthews: -1, 5 S, 2 H, 19:46 TOI

    • Doesn't feel it was an effort thing
    • Felt it was more breakdowns and mistakes, leading to odd-man rushes
    • Need to support each other all throughout the ice
    • Feels the team needs to be more connected when on the ice
    • Needs to limit the mistakes, they are too big that leads to goals
    • Too many odd-man rushes

    John Tavares:  1 G, -3, 4 S, 14:21 TOI

    • Felt the game got away because of significant breakdowns
    • Praises Columbus for finding the open man leading to goals
    • Feels the solution is consistent shift-to-shift
    • All five guys on the ice need to play connected
    • Mistakes are hurting the team
    • Praises Columbus for their speed and skill
    • Felt the team needed to do a better job matching their speed
    • The grind of the season needs to be better; game-to-game, shift-to-shift, they need to fins ways to push through the challenges
    • Really hard to comment on 500th goal after how the team lost
