The Dallas Stars are on the second game of a four-game road trip, now taking on the New Jersey Devils for the first time in the 2023-24 season.

The Dallas Stars look to bounce back after their "worst loss of the year" per head coach Pete DeBoer. The Stars lost 5-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers, where they didn't record a shot on goal for nearly 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils are on the second day of a back-to-back after beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1. The Devils look to make some headway in the standings, as they are currently two points out of a Wild Card spot.

What to watch for:

  • This has the potential to be a high-scoring game between the two, as the Stars are third in the league in goals-for per game at 3.61. The Devils are in seventh with 3.44 goals per game. This means that Scott Wedgewood will have to be on his A-game.
  • Joe Pavelski has four points in his last five games. He is tied for first in goals on the team with Roope Hintz at 18 goals. In his career, Pavelski has played against the Devils 25 times and during those 25 meetings, he has 13 goals and 12 assists.
  • Scott Wedgwood gets the start on the first game of the back-to-back. Typically DeBoer has Jake Oettinger start the first game, but he played last game and coming off an injury, the coaching staff is trying to be mindful of his work load. This will be the third time Wedgewood gets to face his old team. He is looking for his third straight win.

Projected lines:

Robertson-Hintz-Johnston
Marchment-Duchene-Seguin
Benn-Steel-Pavelski
Smith-Faksa-Dadanov

Suter-Lundkvist
Lindell-Hakanpaa
Harley-Hanley

Wedgewood
Oettinger

Ty Dellandrea does not slot in, even after the poor showing the Stars had against the Flyers. This will be his ninth straight game of being a healthy scratch, the longest stretch for him this season.

It has not been confirmed whether the lines will stay in this shuffled fashion, but if the Stars get off to a bad start, DeBoer might have to change them out of necessity.

Puck drop is at 6 p.m. CST and can be seen on Bally Sports Southwest.
