The NHL's Dan Rosen wrote that Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson could still be on the way out of Dallas, giving the talented forward only a 50/50 chance of re-signing.

Rosen reasoned that with Thomas Harley and Robertson both due to sign new contracts before next season, Dallas might not have the cap space for both. Harley has done nothing but prove his value in the first year of a two-year, $8 million deal. Robertson, meanwhile, has shown struggles when coming back from an injury. It seems like Robertson has had a hard time ramping up to his full capabilities when he does not have the requisite time to get healthy and train back to full strength.
Still, Robertson is a gifted scorer, and those do not come around too often. The Stars already are looking a bit thinner at forward this season as compared to last, and it just seems so obvious that the team can't afford to lose another top-line type scorer. Jamie Benn's pricey contract has already come off the books, and Tyler Seguin will count nearly $10 million towards the cap for two more seasons.
In reality, General Manager Jim Nill should feel okay knowing that if he can work some magic to back-load Harley and Robertson's contracts, the salary cap will keep expanding significantly over the next few seasons and with Seguin's contract only affecting year one of the other two players, it feels like there is definitely a way to get things done.
Unfortunately for Dallas, it is that time of the off-season where not much is floating around other than speculation. Everyone needs something to talk about, and it seems like the hot topic is trying to move Robertson elsewhere despite there most likely being a path forward with the Stars.
