The Dallas Stars had to wait a little longer than most would like to wait to get in on the action of the NHL Draft. They sat out the first two rounds after previously trading away the 30th and 62nd picks. They would eventually break through in the 3rd round as they took forward Cameron Schmidt from the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.

Edmonton-native Cameron Schmidt is coming off a season in the WHL in which he scored a career-high 40 goals and 78 points. Schmidt came into the draft ranked 43rd among North American forwards. With the 18-year-old falling to the 3rd round, and the Dallas Stars looking to add more scoring to their organization, the two would be a perfect match.

Besides his scoring ability, Schmidt also possess the ability to race down the ice with above-average speed. With his development surely to continue, it is no question that Schmidt will provide a spark plug for the Stars that could potentially tilt the ice in their favor. Listed at 5'8", 165lbs, Schmidt will have a little ways to go before he grows into an NHL body.
