Entering the season on a short one-year contract, Mavrik Bourque has decided to change agencies to set himself up for his future.

Bourque had been working with Dom De Blois of Meridian Hockey but has made the move to now be represented by Oliver Fortier of Wasserman Hockey. Fortier also represents players such as Noah Dobson, Alexis Lafreniere, Anthony Mantha and Owen Beck.
In June, Bourque signed a one-year deal for $950k after his first full season in the NHL. In 73 games last season, Bourque recorded 11 goals and 25 points. While it is hard to predict how a prospect will perform and translate their game in the big leagues, Bourque is one that the front office has high hopes for panning out, especially after losing Logan Stankoven in the Mikko Rantanen trade.
Bourque's last season in the AHL, he was awarded the Les Cunningham Award for Most Valuable Player and the John B. Sollenberger Trophy for being the league's top scorer. Due to the depth of the lineup the Stars had last year, it was hard for former head coach, Pete DeBoer, to put Bourque in a role that best fit his skill set, which landed Bourque mostly playing in a fourth-line role. It's possible that the 23 year-old's short contract was due to cap constraints, but it is also possible it is a bit of a "prove yourself" contract.
Either way, Bourque will need to step up for himself and the Stars this season, after losing some of the depth that has made them so successful the last several seasons. Training camp and pre-season games start next month, which means hockey season is just around the corner.
