Former Dallas Stars blueline Brendan Smith will look to add at least another year to his 15-season NHL career as he signs a professional try-out with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Smith, 36, was with the Dallas Stars organization last season, appearing in 32 games in a depth role, and scoring six points (1+5). Smith was a frequent healthy scratch last season, as the veteran fell out of favour with coach Pete DeBoer. By the playoffs, the 726 game NHL veteran was leapfrogged by Alex Petrovic and prospect Lian Bichsel.
The 6-foot-2 left-shot defenseman is a former 2007 first round pick by the Detroit Red Wings, and has played games with the Wings, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils and Stars in the NHL.
As for other ties to the Stars, he's the brother of former Dallas Stars forward Reilly Smith.
What Are Expectations For The Dallas Stars' 2025-26 Season
The last three NHL seasons, the Dallas Stars have been one of the most dominant teams in the NHL. Each year, they finished above the 100-point threshold, managed to make the western conference finals, and subsequently losing in them.
