The Dallas Stars have been busy locking in players for the upcoming season. They announced this afternoon that they have re-signed Nils Lundkvist to a one-year deal.
Lundkvist carries a cap hit of $1.25 million, just a small raise from his last $1 million dollar contract last season. The 24 year-old was making big strides in his game in his third season with the Stars before getting sidelined by a shoulder injury before the half-way point of the season.

It is no secret that he struggled to find his place under Pete DeBoer's time in Dallas. Now with Dallas looking for a new coach and his game evolving, Lundkvist might get the chance he has been looking for since being traded for a first-round pick ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Lundkvist tallied eight goals and 32 assists in 158 games in his first three seasons. Since Lundkvist's injury, it was obvious the Stars had a puck-moving issue. They also found themselves having an issue finding reliable right-handed defensmen in the playoffs. There are rumors that the Stars could be looking to move Matt Dumba and/or Ilya Lyubushkin and locking Lundkvist in for next year could be an indication that they feel comfortable moving on from them.
The Stars also signed Mavrik Bourque this afternoon, leaving them with under $3 million to fill the many holes they still have. However, general manager Jim Nill, is far from done getting things in order before free agency starts on July 1.
