Mikko Rantanen came up huge against his former team with a monster four-point night, which included scoring a hat trick. He was named the first star of the game.
However good Rantanen and the rest of the team were, the true first star of the series should be head coach Pete DeBoer. Heading into Saturday night’s contest, the Stars' coach was 8-0 in Game 7s, tied for the most Game 7 wins ever for an NHL player or coach.
Rantanen, Stars Send Avalanche Packing In Game Seven Thriller
The Dallas Stars were tasked with one mission heading into their series finale on Saturday night: win. The Stars and Avalanche have battled back and forth for the last week and a half, ultimately coming to a close in a winner-take-all Game Seven. What started as a night that looked to trend in the Avalanche's favor, eventually ended in possibly one of the most memorable games in Stars history.

“I think those guys are due.”
Now, he’s broken the record.
With Saturday night’s win, DeBoer becomes the first NHL player or coach to have nine Game 7 wins in their career. But it doesn’t end there.
According to the NHL Coaches’ Association, DeBoer now holds the record for most Game 7 wins in North American Sports history. This not only includes the NHL but also Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).
To say that this accomplishment is huge would be an understatement.
For starters, it’s impressive that the Stars defeated the Avalanche without the help of their superstars Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson. Secondly, DeBoer looked calm and collected the whole time. Even when the Stars were down 0-2, there was nothing on his face you could read as panic.
And it paid off in spades.
Now, DeBoer and the Stars will play the winner of the St. Louis Blues—Winnipeg Jets series. Their new series is expected to start in the next few days.
