The 32-year-old defenseman has no goals and three assists in 32 games with the Stars this season.

The Dallas Stars have placed defenseman Joel Hanley on waivers, the team announced Monday.
The 32-year-old Hanley, who signed with the Stars in 2018, has not scored a goal and has three assists (0-3-3) in 32 games this season. In 183 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes and Stars, the 5-11, 186-pound Hanley has recorded two goals and 25 assists (2-25-27).
"Tough day, cap roster casualty," DeBoer told reporters at Monday morning skate. "Like I told our group, I don't think anyone has been a better soldier around here in my time here than Hanley. He gives you everything he's got every time he's asked to, sits for extended periods, comes in and is ready to go and contribute. It was a tough day, not just for the group but for him, obviously."
Upon signing with the Stars, Hanley alternated between Dallas and the Texas Stars of the AHL for two seasons before making Dallas' postseason roster in 2020. He scored his first NHL goal in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning, becoming the first player since Jim Paek of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 to score his first NHL goal in a Cup Final.
Born in Keswick, Ontario, Hanley signed with Montreal as a free agent in the summer of 2015 following his collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts and a stint with Portland of the AHL.
Hanley played with the Canadiens until the summer of 2017, when he signed with Arizona.
Teams have 24 hours to claim Hanley off waivers. If he clears on Tuesday, he'll be sent to the Texas Stars.
"I think he's an NHL player," DeBoer said. "You always hope he can stay in the NHL. If that means it's somewhere else, it's somewhere else. That's a chance we have to take. But if he gets through, he's a great depth piece for us."
With the trade deadline just days away, Hanley's $787,000 cap hit puts the Stars in a great position to make another move. Once again, general manager Jim Nill has arranged the chess pieces in the team's favor as they make a push for the Stanley Cup.
