Jason Robertson scored for the Stars, but Joel Hofer stopped a career-high 39 shots in a victory for the St. Louis Blues.
Scott Wedgewood turned away 28 of the 30 shots he faced but Jake Neighbours and Marco Scandella were able to score to propel the Blues to victory. Scott Perunovich recorded two assists for the Blues as well.
The Stars desperately tried to solve Blues goaltender Joel Hofer but were unsuccessful. Every player besides Sam Steel recorded at least one shot on goal and only Jason Robertson was able to beat him.
The Stars held most of the play in the first period outshooting the Blues 14-8 but left the opening frame trailing 1-0 thanks to a one-timer by Jake Neighbours. Perunovich walked across the blue line and sent a pass to Neighbours who was positioned at the top of the circle. Brandon Saad, who stole the puck off of Hakanpaa to begin the play, provided a screen on Wedgewood that allowed Neighbours to find the back of the net.
The Stars ran into some penalty trouble in the second period taking three penalties, one of them being a double minor. With 9:07 left in the second period, Marco Scandella capped off a great shift by the Blues as he wired a wrist-shot past Wedgewood. The Blues did a great job cycling the puck against the Stars.
The penalty kill has been huge for the Stars and it needed to be late in the second period. Craig Smith was given a double minor for high-sticking and during the Blues power play, Wyatt Johnston was given a penalty for delay of game. The Stars were able to kill off the almost two-minute 5-on-3 and they used the momentum to their advantage.
Roope Hintz spotted Robertson wide open in the neutral zone and was able to hit him with a stretch pass that sent him in all alone. Robertson shot his 11th goal of the season over the right pad of Hofer to cut the Blues lead in half.
The Stars played the third period with a ton of urgency but could not find the tying goal. The Stars outshot the Blues 15-5 in the final period but it was all for nothing as the Blues would hold on to win and improve to 5-1-0 under new head coach Drew Bannister. The Stars six game point streak also came to an end.
The Stars are back in action on Friday as they are set to have back-to-back home games against Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks.
