The Dallas Stars have had a long list of jerseys that were the envy of teams across the league, but the 2020 Winter Classic jersey was recently selected as the best jersey in Dallas history.

The Athletic recently released their choices for the best and worst jerseys in each franchise's history, and along with the Winter Classic look, the infamous "mooterus" alternate jersey was voted as the team's worst look.

The choice of the Winter Classic look is a bit of a bold one, with an honorable mention going to the classic star-shaped jersey of 1999 Stanley Cup winning fame.

The clean crest that paid homage to the Dallas Texans of old along with felt numbering and lettering created an instant classic look for a game that featured over 80,000 roaring fans at the Cotton Bowl. The pairing with the tannish-beige pants and gloves, however, was not a look that fans fell in love with. As a jersey alone, though, it is hard to argue that it is not at least one of the best, if not the best, in Stars history.

The cup-winning jersey would have been an easy pick, and it most likely still holds the top spot for many fans who remember that moment, forever etched in history but also just a fantastic and unique design.

The star shape on the jersey was re-created in two reverse retro jerseys, but with extremely different levels of success. The first reverse retro created an all-white look on the ice when paired with white pants and white gloves, and while some aspects of it were good, the jersey begged for a splash of green somewhere to break up the monotony of white. That jersey could easily beat out the "mooterus" for worst jersey in franchise history.

While on the topic of worst jerseys, the black and white versions of the "Dallas" lettered crest should be considered worse than the "mooterus" design simply because of how boring they were. It did not help that the team reached its ultimate low point during this jersey's era, but the design itself was bad enough on its own.

Back to the recent past and the second reverse retro jersey, which became an instant fan favorite and sold out of stock almost everywhere before that season was over. The black, green and silver version of the updated star design was a sneaky good choice for best jersey over the Winter Classic look.

Now, consider the current home victory green jerseys. These are one of the best home jerseys in the league, but might just be overshadowed by the other excellent choices that have come along since being introduced in 2013-14. The jerseys have gone through the Reebok, Adidas and now Fanatics era but have stayed pretty much identical to the first introduction back in the year where Jamie Benn was made captain and Tyler Seguin was introduced for the first time.

And, of course, the most polarizing jersey that has been the alternate for the last four years is the blackout jersey, equipped with the alternate Texas logo in a neon "city lights" green. Some fans hate it, but most Stars fans seem to love it. Go to a game at the American Airlines Center and it is impossible not to see how many fans don the blackout look game in and game out.

Unofficially, the blackout jerseys seem to have reached their end on the ice, only being worn a measly six games last season and the team hinting at getting a new look for the upcoming season.

Perhaps those will make The Athletic and fans alike reconsider what the best jersey in franchise history is moving forward.
