Carter Mazur's Upside

It didn't take Detroit Red Wings 2021 third round pick Carter Mazur long to find a rhythm with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Mazur missed all of training camp and the start of the season with a lower body injury, but since returning to the Griffins, the 21-year-old from Jackson, Michigan has posted two goals and three assists in five games.

In the above video (an excerpt from THN Detroit's podcast The Silky Mitten State), Connor Earegood and I discuss Mazur's unique blend of physicality and skill, as well as his potential for the Red Wings.  

He is a player who looks perfectly suited to the aggressive, forechecking game Derek Lalonde wants from his team at the NHL level, and while he might not be quite ready for that role yet, he has the makings of a player who will make an impact for Detroit for a long time.
