The Edmonton Oilers took to the ice for their Game 3 morning skate on Saturday night. However, a notable player was missing.

Calvin Pickard was not on the ice. Instead, Stuart Skinner occupied the starter's net while Olivier Rodrigue practiced on the backup net.

When Skinner spoke to the media after the morning skate, he confirmed he was the starting goalie for Saturday night’s game. He has a 0-2 record with a 6.11 goals against average (GAA) and an .810 save percentage (SV%).

Pickard’s loss is a big one for the Oilers. He was having an incredible run before this injury forced him to miss practice and Game 3. He has a 6-0 record, a 2.84 GAA, and a .888 SV%.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to the media after practice. He described Pickard as being “day-to-day.”

This is a big opportunity for Skinner to prove his bounceback ability. He displayed that during last year’s playoff run, when Pickard came in to relieve him and then started the next two games. After the reset, Skinner came back better than he was before.

For the Oilers’ sake, let’s hope that version of Skinner will return to on Saturday night and not the one who opened the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
